Collect Antiques? - Every Collector Add A Collector

All of us have heard the complaints that there are too few new collectors entering the antiques and collectibles market.  I often hear the same concerns from fellow art pottery collectors and dealers.

In an effort to attract new collectors, a group of antique dealers and trade members have started an initiative called "Every Collector Add a Collector."  The "Every Collector Add a Collector" initiative urges each one of us who already has in interest in antiques and collectibles to share their collector interest with friends, family and co-workers.

I understand the group has assembled a color brochure that emphasizes the fun and affordable aspects of collecting antiques and encourages collectors to "mentor" someone who could become interested in collecting antiques.  This seems like an easy and inexpensive way for collectors, dealers, auctioneers, etc. to make sure we are attracting new people to the antiques and collectibles market.

Comments

I totally agree with your comment regarding new collectors entering the world of antiques and collectibles.

The art of taking the time to learn and enjoy antiques amongst the youth of today has to be reinforced by dealers like us.

With the paste of life today, the younger folk do not seem to understand or care to understand antiques and collectibles as us older folk. This is why we still have to be informative as possible should such individuals happen upon our websites. It is not just about selling merchandise. We have to be able to relate our zest or zeal regarding the items to which we wish to attract attention and interest. We have to be able to transfer to the potential buyer/collector why they too would like to place an item of interest into their environment. We do this by accurate descriptions, good research and reasonably good photos. Remember not all of us are professional photographers. This is evident on many websites.

Then an honest straight forward sales pitch that psychologically makes sense is in order to win the buyer and perhaps venture him or her into a magical and wonderful world of antiques and collectibles.
